Oakland Center

Oakland Center Closed February 18 - 21

The Oakland Center will be closed starting on Sunday, February 18, and continuing through Wednesday, February 21, to allow work crews to make major repairs to building heating systems.

Unforeseen circumstances have made it necessary to shut down heating systems throughout the building during this period.

Campus community members will still be able to take advantage of food sales at Frankie's Cafe in Kresge Library, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.daily.

The Oakland Center appreciates the patience and understanding of the campus community during such circumstances. Plans are to reopen the Oakland Center on Thursday, February 22. Chick-fil-A, Create and Subway will reopen in the Oakland Center at this time.

Construction Update

Effective Monday, February 5, the staircase on the north end of the Oakland Center – near the Gold Rooms on the main floor and the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on the lower level – will be closed to support expansion project construction.

Until April when the staircase reopens, the only access to the lower level will be by way of the staircase or the elevator at the south end of the building.

All lower level offices and service providers will remain open during the staircase closure. These include the Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Bear Cave, CSA Service Window, Student Technology Center, WXOU and Oakland Post.

Two points of egress from the lower level will also remain open. These include the staircase and elevator at the south end of the building, as well as a temporary exit accessible through a hallway built adjacent to the Bear Cave lounge.

The University appreciates the patience of campus community members as crews work to enhance space, programs and services available at the Oakland Center.
