Avondale grad awarded Patrick and Christie Scoggin Foundation Scholarship
Shiloh Johnson
Shiloh Johnson, a 2022 graduate of Avondale High School, is this year's recipient of the Patrick and Christie Scoggin Foundation Scholarship.

Shiloh Johnson, an Avondale High School graduate known for his strong work ethic, academic achievements and athletic performance, has been selected to receive the 2022-2023 Patrick and Christie Scoggin Foundation Scholarship.

The four-year, full-tuition scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming freshman from Rochester Adams, Rochester, Avondale or Stoney Creek High School. Applicants are evaluated based on financial need, academic performance and extracurricular involvement.

“My main goal is to be better each day in some aspect of my life,” said Johnson. “Whether in education, sports, mentally, spiritually or as a young black man growing up in today's society.”

Corey Bell, head football coach at Avondale, described Johnson as “one of the best leaders that we have within our football program.” The coach also spotlighted Johnson’s relentlessly positive attitude and willingness to lead by example.

“He comes to practice every single day with a smile on his face and has a ton of energy that lifts people up around him,” Bell said. “Shiloh is always one of the first people to practice and is one of the last to leave. Every day he makes sure that all our equipment is put away properly before he leaves. It is because of his attitude and work ethic that other student-athletes look up to him.”

In recognition of these attributes, Johnson was honored with the school’s Purple and Gold Award. To continue making a difference, Johnson plans to pursue a career in health care, with a potential focus on physical therapy, sports science or pharmaceuticals.

“The Patrick and Christie Scoggin Foundation Scholarship will give me the opportunity to focus on my dream and any future endeavors that may await my life,” said Johnson.
