SBA Beta Gamma Sigma chapter earns “Highest Honors” status

The School of Business Administration (SBA) Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) chapter has earned the “Highest Honors” status for the 2023-2024 academic year, the highest distinction possible for BGS chapters.

BGS is the International Business Honor Society recognizing top-performing students from around the world in business schools accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Membership is exclusively offered to top-performing students of AACSB-accredited business schools, representing the world's top 5% of business school programs. Internationally, BGS members are the top 10% of undergraduate students and top 20% of graduate students at an AACSB-accredited business school.

The Oakland University BGS chapter is dedicated to academic excellence, cultivating future business leaders and nurturing a commitment to honor, integrity, and community. Students are invited to join the honors society by majoring in a business field, holding a GPA of 3.5+, and be within the top 10% of undergrads and top 20% of MBA students.

Karen Person, Assistant Director of Experiential Programs and BGS Advisor, commented, “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and faculty. The ‘Highest Honors’ status reflects our ongoing commitment to academic excellence and leadership development.”

The BGS chapter at OU has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence. Over the years, the chapter has organized numerous events aimed at fostering leadership, integrity, and professional development among its members. Notably, at last year’s volunteer event with Oakland HOPE Food Pantry and Thrift Store, members were able to give back by helping sort books for a book drive and assist in organizing groceries for local citizens. Another highlight from the 2023-2024 academic year was the professional development event with guest speaker Tricia Rutherford, the Director of Recruiting at Strategic Recruiting Services. Tricia was able to give the BGS members valuable insight regarding interviewing skills and personal branding.

Courtney Perttula, BGS President, shares, “Myself and the entire OU Beta Gamma Sigma chapter were thrilled to hear that we were awarded the “Highest Honors” status. Each member, past and present, is dedicated to their studies and ambition to become an outstanding business professional. Oakland University business students are resilient, resourceful and dedicated. Being awarded, “Highest Honors” further proves our determination.”

A total of 24 new undergraduate and graduate students were inducted to OU's chapter this past February.
