Remarks for Faculty Recognition

One of the great pleasures I have as President is to spend time getting to know the staff, students and faculty who make our university such a special and inspiring place.
Although we are not together to stand and applaud your accomplishments that does not diminish the significance of the faculty who we honor today for their exceptional achievements.
- I, for one, will applaud from my “virtual location.”
Representing areas from around the university, these talented and dedicated teachers, scholars, scientists, engineers and artists make up the backbone of Oakland.
Collectively, the contributions of these faculty members elevate the reputation of our university while setting the standard for excellence.
As an institution that values the pursuit of knowledge, we congratulate you on your achievements in research, the performing arts, communications, linguistics, English, psychology, management, marketing, education, engineering, computer science, health sciences, nursing, library science and medicine.
A review of the list of those recognized reflects the rich intellectual diversity, creativity and innovative spirit of the substantial work done here at Oakland.
While the notable faculty members gathered for recognition are accomplished in their fields, their impact can be also measured in the many ways they inspire students, colleagues and those of us in administration, who are so deeply appreciative of their intellectual talents and integrity.
Your work is not only impressive‚ it is timely and reflects a curiosity at the core of the pursuit for new knowledge. . . . the type of knowledge that leads to positive impact on our community and world.
There can be no doubt that these faculty members we honor today play a vital role in raising the profile and reputation of Oakland University.
