Biography

Reema Barlaskar has taught a variety of courses, including rhetoric and composition, basic writing, writing across the disciplines, women’s literature, and British literature. She received the 2017 Excellence in Teaching Writing Award at Wayne State University (graduate teaching assistant category) and is currently teaching WRT 1060: Composition II.

Reema views the process of writing as one primarily grounded in reflection and community. She strives to help her students reach their full potential as writers and as discursive members of their communities. She stresses the investment of passion and diligence in one’s writing and the importance of the rhetorical situation in which one writes. Reema further emphasizes research as a self-directed process guided by the writer’s purpose and discursive position. She endeavors to build skills in critical reading and analysis during the process of research and highlights the importance of community when writers construct and develop a discursive relationship with texts.

She is author of “The ‘Contagion’ of ‘Ridiculous Superstition’: Representations of Lower-Class Voices in Ann Radcliffe's Novels” (Gothic Studies, Vol. 20) and “Maternal Femininity, Masquerade, and the Sacrificial Body in Charlotte Dacre's Zofloya, or The Moor” (Irish Journal of Gothic and Horror Studies, Issue 18).
