Biography

Jim Nugent is an associate professor of professional and digital writing. Jim earned his Ph.D. at Michigan Technological University in Rhetoric and Technical Communication. He holds a master's degree in English studies/technical writing from Illinois State University, and a bachelor's degree in math and computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Jim's research interests include neosophistic rhetorical theory, the teaching of technical writing, and certificate programs in technical communication. His collection Transforming English Studies: New Voices in an Emerging Genre, co-edited with Lori Ostergaard and Jeff Ludwig, is available from Parlor Press. Jim's second collection, Writing Majors: Eighteen Program Profiles, was published by Utah State University Press in 2015. This collection, which Jim co-edited with Greg Giberson and Lori Ostergaard, documents eighteen stories of writing major programs in various stages of formation, preservation, and reform and exposing the contingencies of their local and material constitution.
