Programs and Support Services

All of our programs and services are aimed at creating a diverse, inclusive and vibrant campus. From hosting celebration months honoring the contributions of various cultures to our training programs, we move to uplift and educate on the importance of each voice in creating our OU community.

Programs
  • Welcome Reception
Newly admitted CMI Scholars (students who receive OUTAS, Wade-McCree and Detroit scholarships) and their parents attend a Welcome Reception during the summer. Students and parents have the opportunity to meet the Center for Multicultural Initiatives staff and peer mentors, as well as faculty and administrators. An overview of the CMI scholars program is presented, along with specific details about program components.

  • Welcome Cookout
The Welcome Cookout takes place during the first week of the fall semester known as Welcome Week. It is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Initiatives and several student groups. The cookout provides new students with their first opportunity to meet Oakland University faculty, staff and members of student organizations. This event gives new students a positive view of the university and gives Oakland an opportunity to welcome them into the university family.

  • Hispanic Heritage Month
