Academic Advisers

Schedule an appointment with your academic adviser online using the online scheduling system here or by calling the office at 248-370-4567 (M-F 8 a.m.-5 p.m.).

As a student within the College of Arts and Sciences, you have two advisers to support you. Your assigned academic adviser can help with choosing classes, learning how to get involved on campus, talking through your future goals and planning on how to meet them, as well as connecting you with campus resources. Your academic adviser will also help keep an eye on all of the boxes that need to be checked off to meet your graduation requirements.

CAS Advisers are here to help answer questions like:

  • How long will it take to complete a degree?
  • What courses satisfy requirements?
  • Is the major I’ve selected appropriate for my goals?
  • Should I consider a minor or concentration?
  • Can I take courses here or at another school during the summer?

Other services advisers can provide are:

  • Referrals to other campus resources
  • Graduation audits
  • Career planning

As a student within the College of Arts and Sciences, you have two advisers to support you. Your faculty adviser is a faculty, or instructor, within your area of study. They are the go to person in your department for you to talk about your major, learn of research or internship opportunities, learn more about your field, and explore graduate school or career path options.

Feel free to reach out to them at any time. It may feel odd to reach out to a professor you’ve never met before to ask for a time to sit down and talk with them about the field, but they are excited to do so and there to help.

View Faculty Adviser Referral List to find the faculty adviser for your area of study.

*As a heads up, you'll need to open this form while only logged into your OU email/gmail account, and not additionally logged into another personal gmail, in order to have access.

Some departments also have specific faculty that advise students seeking internships. If you are looking to complete an internship for your major and/or minor, please contact your internship coordinator.

If your future plans include professional programs such as medical, dental, veterinarian or optometry schools, our pre-professional advisers can help you be best prepared to become a competitive applicant for such programs. They offer a variety of services including workshops, a weekly newsletter, and consultations for CAS Students.

You can find more information on the separate Pre-Professional Advising website here.

CAS Students can schedule individual appointments here. Be sure to select "CAS Pre-Professional Advising" for the Advising Center in the scheduling system.
