Letter from the Dean
Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at Oakland University
The College of Arts and Sciences is the heart and soul of Oakland University. Matilda Dodge Wilson, the founder of OU, envisioned a great university in Oakland County with the Arts and Sciences at its core. That mission supports students as they develop their intellectual curiosity and communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. From actuarial sciences, anthropology, biology, cinema studies, criminal justice, graphic design, history, languages, literature, mathematics, musical theatre, physics, social work, and countless other areas of study, the faculty, students and staff of CAS embrace this pioneering vision through over 100 majors and 28 graduate programs.
The college is home to nationally and internationally recognized scholars and researchers who create a vibrant community for learning. CAS feels like an elite liberal arts college with all the advantages of a research university in a dynamic metropolitan area. CAS students have opportunities to study abroad, to collaborate with community organizations, to intern with top companies, and to add to the body of knowledge in their discipline through research projects.
The empowering skills and knowledge of an Arts and Sciences education coupled with the resilience that comes from being part of the OU tradition are exactly the combinations that employers are seeking. It is in CAS where students become bold and empathetic leaders who contribute to their communities, the Detroit metro area, the state of Michigan, and the world. Arts and Sciences graduates are change makers!
We, the faculty, students, and staff, of CAS invite you to explore the website as you begin your journey. We are here to help you as you discover and attain your dreams!
