For the 2024-2025 academic year, the voluntary domestic health insurance plan offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) will no longer be offered through Oakland University.  We encourage you to visit the Health Insurance Market Place to explore new coverage options.

You may be eligible to enroll in a different BCBS plan which you may wish to inquire with Blue Cross Blue Shield by contacting BCBSM at (800) 662-6667 or visit https://www.bcbsm.com.

Depending on your coverage, many laboratory services (throat cultures, blood tests) can be billed directly through participating laboratories. Please contact your insurance company to verify benefits.

Please bring your insurance card with you, or a copy of the front and back of your parent’s card. We work very hard to keep your out-of-pocket expenses to a minimum but we can not guarantee insurance coverage/payment.

The primary purpose of health insurance in college is to keep students in school so they can graduate and realize their professional and career dreams.

The Healthy Michigan Plan provides health care coverage to low-income Michigan Residents. Find out if you qualify.

For out-of-state students, consider whether your current employer-provided insurance adequately covers your student. If your student is attending an out-of-state school, your employer provided PPO may consider the health care providers in that state out of network, which will increase your out-of-pocket costs. An HMO plan may consider those same providers as being out of their service area.

The Young Invincibles, a national advocacy organization for young Americans between the ages of 18 and 34, provides a free online information toolkit to give students and families valuable information about health care coverage. Their Getting Covered website explains insurance options for students in every state and provides other resources for graduating young adults.

If you are turning 26 years old, moving to a new home, getting married, or having a baby, you may be able to enroll in health insurance! If you are facing one of these life-changing events, make sure that you get covered. Hurry–you may only have a limited time to get insurance!
