International Students and Scholars

Mission

The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) is committed to the service, support, and advocacy of Oakland University’s International Student and Scholar population, with the goal of building an international campus which nurtures global citizenship and multicultural appreciation.

Vision

An inclusive and engaged international learning community where all students and scholars are able to achieve their academic and professional goals and objectives.

The office currently services over 1,100 International Students and over 40 Scholars and 117 dependents from over 60 countries around the world.  We provide services to international students and scholars who need:

  • immigration-related advising
  • social and cultural counseling
  • orientation sessions

COVID-19 Update

As of Monday, March 23, 2020, the staff of the Office of Global Engagement will be working from home until further notice. Oakland University is still open, but we are handling all requests virtually. The following Remote Request Form is the quickest way to get in touch with us: https://forms.gle/KGuo9UZGYHfqpEMUA. It will be monitored closely during business hours, and we will respond to you as soon as possible.

For International Students and Scholars who need a travel signature before leaving the country, please drop off your I-20 or DS-2019 in the lock box outside of 328 O'Dowd and send us a note through this form to let us know that your document is there. If you are traveling at the last minute, you can leave without a travel signature. You will just need to make arrangements to send us your I-20 or DS-2019 later for signature and before you return.

For OPT/CPT and other immigration processes please scan all of your paperwork and send it to isso@oakland.edu . We often receive incomplete or incorrect paperwork. This will only delay your process. Please make sure you you review everything before sending it to us.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the university has suspended all in-person operations. Effective Thursday, March 26, the ISSO will only mail documents to students.  In-person drop-off and pick-up is not available. As always, if you have a question or concern, please contact us.

Please visit Oakland University's COVID-19 Webpage for more information and updates.
