Todd K. Shackelford, distinguished professor and chair of Oakland University’s psychology department, was selected to receive a Springer Nature Editor of Distinction Award for his service as editor of Evolutionary Psychological Science, a journal dedicated to exploring the psychological aspects of evolution and behavior.

The Springer Nature Editor of Distinction Awards are prestigious annual honors given by the academic publisher Springer Nature to recognize top-tier editors and editorial board members across their portfolio of journals.

"Receiving the Editor of Distinction Award is wonderful recognition for the extraordinary time and investment in the peer review process by members of the editorial board and by many dozens of members of the scientific community, who work tirelessly to ensure that Evolutionary Psychological Science consistently publishes the highest quality empirical and theoretical work in the field," said Shackelford.

Springer has two types of Editor of Distinction Awards: the Author Service Award and the Editorial Contribution Award. Shackelford received the latter, which recognizes editors for “meticulous assessment of manuscript submissions and strong stewardship of the peer review process.”

Honorees are in the top 20% globally for the number of manuscripts sent to peer review, helping safeguard the scientific accuracy of published research.

"Evolutionary psychological science – and science more generally – depends on the peer review process to identify papers that meet strict standards of empirical, methodological and theoretical quality sufficient to warrant journal publication and, therefore, entry into the scholarly knowledge base," said Shackelford.

Shackelford has edited Evolutionary Psychological Science since he founded the journal in 2014. It features original empirical and theoretical papers that address evolved psychology in humans and nonhumans, with contributions across academic disciplines and geographic boundaries.
