Dr. Ruth E. Zambrana, a leading scholar and award-winning author, will lecture at Oakland University's Oakland Center Banquet Room A on Thursday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Her topic is “Reflections on the Changing Goals and Values of Higher Education: Creating Space and Agency for an Inclusive Campus.”
"We are grateful to have Dr. Ruth Zambrana share her expertise and transformative insights and best practices to support our growing underrepresented (URM) faculty, staff and students.We are also thrilled that she is leading focus groups with our Black and Latinx faculty associations. Dr. Zambrana's work is leading our nation's research and dialogue to move beyond the mere illumination of historic injustice to catalyzing needed change, thus increasing URM agency and belonging on campuses throughout the U.S." said Oakland University's Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Britt Rios-Ellis.
Zambrana has published widely on health and racial inequity, with concentrations on women’s health, maternal and child health, socioeconomic health disparities and life course impacts on the health and mental well-being of historically underrepresented minorities.
She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and a recipient of the 2011 Julian Samora Distinguished Career Award (American Sociological Association).
