On Tuesday, May 24, Oakland University and its Center for Civic Engagement will host a debate between U.S. Representatives Andy Levin and Haley Stevens as they campaign for the Democratic Party’s nomination in Michigan’s new 11th Congressional District. The event will take place from 7-8:30 p.m., in the Oakland Center Founders Ballrooms on OU’s campus.
In addition to the in-person event, the debate can also be accessed via livestream. Those who choose this option will be sent instructions on how to access the livestream closer to the event. Those planning to attend the event, either in person or via livestream, are asked to register at the event web page.
Chuck Stokes, Editorial and Public Affairs Director for WXYZ Channel 7, and Chad Livengood, Politics Editor at The Detroit News, will moderate the debate.
“The primary campaign between Representatives Stevens and Levin is one of the most-watched primary battles in the United States,” said David Dulio, professor of political science and director of the Center for Civic Engagement at Oakland University. “It has earned national attention and will continue to do so. We look forward to welcoming people to OU’s campus – part of which is in the new 11th District – to hear from these candidates as they seek to move on to the general election.”
Members of the public are invited to submit questions for the candidates. The debate moderators will be furnished with all questions submitted to help them ask the candidates about the issues that are of greatest interest. Questions may be submitted through the event web page.
