The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) recognized Oakland University for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections. OU received several honors, including:

  • Best in Class Award for Most Improved Voter Registration Rate at a Public 4-Year Institution. OU maintained a 88.5% voter registration rate in 2022, up from 73.7% in 2018.

  • Platinum Seal from ALL IN based on OU’s 2022 voting rate of 56.6%. Platinum is awarded to schools with a voting rate of 50-59%.

  • Inclusion on ALL IN’s inaugural list of Top Campuses by 2022 Voter Turnout for 4-year Public Institutions

“This recognition would not be possible without the buy-in from OU leadership, including the President and Board of Trustees,” said Dave Dulio, distinguished professor and director of OU’s Center for Civic Engagement. “But the real congratulations goes to the students. They are engaged and active participants in their democratic society. We look forward to their engagement as the 2024 election cycle concludes later this fall.”

About the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) is a national nonpartisan initiative of Civic Nation, a 501(c)(3) organization. ALL IN strives to change civic culture and institutionalize democratic engagement activities and programs on college campuses, making voter participation a defining feature of campus life.

ALL IN, in collaboration with over 1,060 higher education institutions, seeks to make participation in local, state, and federal elections a social norm; substantially increase the number of college students who are democratically engaged on an ongoing basis, during and between elections, and not just at the polls, and make educating for democratic engagement on college campuses an accepted and expected part of the culture and curriculum so that students graduate with the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and values needed to be an informed and active citizen.
