Three Oakland University mechanical engineering professors, Drs. Sergey Golovashchenko, Zissimos Mourelatos and Lianxiang Yang, were recently named among the “top 2% of scientists in various disciplines.”

Published by Stanford University, the list is based on statistics from Scopus (Elsevier's abstract and citation database) and information updated through the 2022 citation year, using the ICSR Lab provided by Elsevier’s International Center for the Study of Research.

Dr. Golovashchenko’s focus is on innovative technologies of sheet metal forming and joining (including high-velocity forming and welding methods), which enable substantial weight savings for automotive industry.

Dr. Mourelatos is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in engineering design and automotive research and development with substantial contributions in reliability methods, quality and safety, as well as in engine design and dynamics.

Dr. Yang’s scholarly interests include development and application of advanced optical techniques for solving engineering problems. His research is on optical metrology, experimental strain/stress analysis, nondestructive testing and material evaluation, vibration measurement and analysis for design validation and optimization.

“These professors showcase exemplary work by some of our mechanical engineering faculty,” said Dr. Xia Wang, professor and interim chair of OU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. “I am pleased to see the impact of their work being recognized within the academic community. Congratulations to them!”
