Leaders from Oakland University School of Nursing and Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan came together to celebrate the inaugural cohort of students from the Accelerated Second-Degree (ASD) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the BSN (fall 2023 direct admits) programs who received the Corewell Health Nurse Scholars Program grant.

At the event on November 3, students had the opportunity to meet with Corewell Health leadership, clinical education, human resources and recruiters to answer any questions they had about employment after graduation.

Dr. Carrie Buch, associate dean of the School of Nursing, welcomed and shared with the students the school’s mission to “prepare innovative, caring, and competent nurse leaders committed to the health and well-being of individuals and communities through education, practice and scholarship.” Buch congratulated the students for being selected for the Corewell Health Nurse Scholars Program grant and applauded their dedication, determination and passion for serving others.

In August of 2022, Oakland University and Corewell Health announced a new partnership to help meet the critical demand for nurses in Michigan. The Corewell Health Nurse Scholars Program grant provides up to $20,000 per recipient, as well as guaranteed job placement at a Corewell Health hospital in Southeast Michigan for two years after graduation. The inaugural ASD BSN Corewell Health Nurse Scholars Program cohort has 48 grant recipients and an additional 24 BSN direct admits who will start their nursing courses in the fall of 2024.
