Oakland University (OU) and Macomb Community College have signed a new transfer articulation that will make it easier for students to transfer to OU to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education after successfully completing an Associate of General Studies degree — as outlined in the agreement — at Macomb.
The objectives of the agreement include ensuring the efficient and seamless movement of student from Macomb Community College to Oakland University, to provide course equivalencies for all students at Macomb who intend to pursue a degree from the School of Education and Human Services at Oakland, and to establish academic and administrative coordination between Oakland and Macomb.
“This agreement helps students see, right from the start, the wraparound services our education faculty and staff offer,” said Dr. Danielle Ligocki, associate professor and chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning at Oakland University. “We take great care in getting to know our students as humans and in working to support them in order to meet their needs.”

The agreement is effective through April 30, 2026 and is subject to review for continuation after three years.
“This is a great opportunity for our students at Oakland to seamlessly transition into finishing their baccalaureate in elementary education,” said Dr. Britt Rios-Ellis, executive vice president of Academic Affairs and provost at Oakland University.
“I still remember my first and second grade teachers; they were such an important part of my life,” Rios-Ellis added. “I lived right across the street from the school and I absolutely loved going to school every day. I want our upcoming teachers to know that the amount of work they’re doing every day is having such an impact on the leaders of future generations.”
The articulation agreement is another step in the longstanding partnership between Oakland University and Macomb Community College. In addition to the Transfer Admission Guarantee, Oakland University also offers scholarships for community college transfer students.
