OU alum Braeden Haggarty, who earned a bachelor of fine arts in musical theatre from Oakland University in 2022, is directing Chippewa Valley High School’s upcoming production of “The SpongeBob Musical,” which opens on Friday Nov. 10.

In addition to Haggarty, OU alumna Lily Slayton has also been working on the production, and Isabella Pacifico, a communications major and dance minor at OU, has been handling choreography.

“She choreographed our last two musicals, ‘Seussical’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ and each show won Sutton Foster awards for Best Choreography,” Haggarty said.

Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg and the book by Kyle Jarrow, “The SpongeBob Musical” will feature original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alex-Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants, and T.I.

The production will also feature additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton and additional lyrics by Tom Kitt.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on Nov. 10-11, and Nov. 16-18, and at 1 p.m. on Nov. 18. Tickets are available at www.cvhsmusicals.org.
