The Renaissance City Repertory Theatre, founded by Oakland University Associate Professor of Theatre David Gram and his wife Kristina in 2020, will present the Southeast Michigan premiere of White Rabbit, Red Rabbit – a play by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour – at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 in the Varner Lab Theatre on the campus of Oakland University.
The production is unique because there are no rehearsals, no set, and no director. The performer does not see the script in advance. It is presented to the performer on stage in full view of the audience.
“This ‘audacious theatrical experiment’ offers a communal and interactive experience between performer and audience,” Gram said. “Harnessing the power of storytelling, the play crosses geographical borders and invites understanding and sympathy – especially as we navigate current power structures, privilege, and ideological differences.”
Presented in association with Aurora Nova Productions, and Boat Rocker Entertainment, the production also features OU alum Brady Jacot (SMTD ’24).
“We’re also going to be presenting the play at Tipping Point Theatre in Northville, Mich. on Sunday, March 30 at 7 p.m. with Tipping Point’s Artistic Director, Julia Glander, as the featured performer,” Gram said, noting that each actor is only allowed to perform the play once.
