As a young child, Farzana Noor (DNP 2023, MSN 2019, BSN 2014) recognized the lack of health care service for non-English speaking families. Her decision to pursue a career in nursing was first inspired by what she saw going to doctor’s appointments with her family.
“I realized early on that not having healthcare providers here that spoke Bangla made things very difficult both for my immediate and my extended family to obtain medical care,” she said. “I was eight, nine, ten years old having to translate for family members during their medical appointments.”
Being able to make a difference in an underserved population and give back to the community has driven her passion to obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. As a DNP, Noor possess the highest level of nursing expertise and will work in a pediatric clinical setting. Dr. Noor has the ability to influence healthcare outcomes through organizational leadership and direct patient care. She is heavily involved in various charity organizations such as the March of Dimes and Palav, a charity that provides advanced medical equipment for neonates to remote villages in India.
Noor combines the knowledge and skills she learned in the School of Nursing with her experience as a member of the local Bangladeshi community to improve health care access in Hamtramck.
