The Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP) offers a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education degree that combines teacher education coursework, three quality field placements in local schools, and culminates in a student teaching internship with a skilled mentor. The STEP program is designed for individuals who are interested in earning their initial teaching certificate at the middle or high school level teaching English Language Arts, Integrated Science, Mathematics, or Social Studies.

PROGRAM OPTIONS

Candidates interested in earning their teaching certificate in Secondary Education will select from either Masters-only program or the Combined BA/MA program.  Please note that each program route has unique prerequisite requirements and varying admission processes, so please review carefully.

  • Masters-only Program - The Masters-only program is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in any subject from an accredited University and are now seeking a career in teaching middle or high school English Language Arts, Integrated Science, Mathematics, or Social Studies.
  • Combined Bachelor and Masters Program - The combined Bachelor and Masters program provides an expedited path for current undergraduate students who plan to teach middle or high school English Language Arts, Integrated Science, Mathematics, or Social Studies.
