Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction (SI) are organized study sessions multiple times a week for students enrolled in traditionally difficult courses. Sessions are conducted by SI leaders, trained undergraduate students who have successfully completed and excelled in the course.
SI sessions are free and included on a student's course schedule at registration. While sessions are voluntary, regular attendance is highly recommended. Students who attend SI on a regular basis typically earn higher course grades than those who do not attend SI.
Join SI to practice the course material covered in lecture, learn course-specific study strategies, and prepare for tests with your peers! Curious what to expect from SI? See the FAQs below to learn more, set up a meeting with an academic coach, or connect with us.
Our SI program is accredited by The International Center for Supplemental Instruction at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
Your SI sessions will be listed on your schedule. Look up the course on your schedule in MySAIL. You can access the SI espace page for your class through MySAIL.
Students who attend SI on a regular basis usually earn higher course grades than those who do not attend SI. During the 2023-2024 year, students that attended 10 or more SI sessions had a 0.76 overall increase in course GPA across disciplines compared to the students that did not attend SI.
SI is not just another lecture and should not cover new material. Instead, SI often includes extra practice, opportunities to work on problems together with your classmates, or review of material from the most recent lectures. Many SI leaders also hold exam reviews to help jumpstart individual study in preparation for summative assessments.
