Study Groups

Study Groups are organized study sessions free to all enrolled Oakland University students currently taking the course. Sessions are facilitated by Study Group Leaders who are trained undergraduate students who have excelled in the course. Study groups can take on different forms depending on the course. No matter the format, study groups are an opportunity to study with your peers and maximize your time preparing for class.

Study Group Schedule

Regular Study Groups

These groups meet weekly either once or twice per week. Leaders may bring prepared study topics or practice problems to review together or the study group might include time for general Q&A. Some regular study groups meet twice in a week but the prepared material is the same.

Conversation Groups

“Convo groups,” as you’ll see them named in the tutoring schedule, are a gathering of folks wanting to practice and converse in a particular language. While most attendees are those learning the target language, native or fluent speakers are also welcome to attend. Unlike tutoring and most regular study groups, you do not need to be currently enrolled in a language course to attend a conversation group.

**Often, appointment-based tutoring will also be available in the target languages but this tutoring is reserved for those enrolled in the tutored course.

Exam Reviews

Study groups offered only for exam reviews do not occur every week. Instead, they are scheduled in the weeks preceding each major exam in a course. Check the schedule for updates or watch your email for news from the study group leader!
