About the Research Office
Oakland University provides state-of-the-art research facilities and a rich, collaborative environment for our faculty and students in support of their research and educational activities. OU is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as one of the nation’s doctoral research universities. We are proud of the wide spectrum of research and other scholarly and creative activities made possible by the excellence of our faculty, students, facilities and institutional culture that is inclusive of all disciplines.
The Research Office supports the advancement of research at Oakland University by providing the necessary administrative infrastructure for investigators, as well as development, commercialization, and funding programs. The Research Office strongly encourages the involvement of students in research. OU is committed to the highest ethical standards in the conduct of research, which are essential for sustaining an excellent research program that contributes to the well-being of our local, national and global communities.
The Research Office is led by the Chief Research Officer and has five main functional groups to assist with and oversee various aspects of the research enterprise:
- Developing Proposals and Research Ideas – specialists who will help you develop your ideas, find funding and other resources, and create a proposal
- Sponsored Programs – a team that interfaces with funding agencies and will partner with you throughout the life cycle of your proposal and award
- Regulatory Compliance – a group of committees for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university rules and regulations
- Technology, Commercialization and Economic Development – programs and incubators to help students, faculty, staff and alumni to take their knowledge out into the world in ways that make a difference
- Professional Development, Collaboration Resources and Community Engagement – various programs to help faculty become more successful researchers
In addition, we support Community Engagement, administrate internal funding programs for faculty and offer student funding opportunities.
