Biography

Sheryl Ruszkiewicz has taught writing at Oakland University since 2012, specializing in WRT 1050 (Composition I) and WRT 1060 (Composition II). Her teaching philosophy is human-centered, process-oriented, and grounded in active, equity-minded learning.

Her academic interests include community-engaged storytelling, oral history, technical writing, and digital accessibility. She bridges academic writing with community engagement through hands-on service learning, including Bound to Belong (a pen pal and storytelling initiative with Bound Together in Pontiac), technical repair manual projects with iFixit, and community storytelling with The Facing Project and Storytelling Diversity.

Dedicated to student well-being and educational leadership, Ruszkiewicz serves as a Mental Health First Aider and Green Bandana Project participant, regularly presenting on care-based, trauma-informed pedagogy, and universal design. She also has co-authored book chapters alongside OU undergraduate students and alumni.
