Claudio Cortes DVM, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Immunology, Department of Foundational Medical Studies

Dr. Cortes joined the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in June 2014 as an assistant professor in the Department of Foundational Medical Studies. He teaches Immunology to M1-M2 students.

Prior to joining OUWB, Dr. Cortes worked at Medical University of Americas and University of Toledo College of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell Biology and Neurosciences, as well as his DVM from the University of Chile in Santiago (1996). He is a member of the Chilean Immunology Society (SOCHIN), the American Society of Immunologists (AAI) and the International Complement Society (ICS).

In collaboration with University of Toledo College of Medicine, Dr. Cortes is working to determine the role of complement system and platelet-monocyte/aggregation in atherosclerosis. His other research includes working to generate software to enhance the education of medical students at OUWB, as well as creating a program in parenting education, in which medical students participate in education and research initiatives in medically underserved areas.
