Claudio Cortes DVM, Ph.D.
Associate Professor in the Department of Foundational Medical Studies
Dr. Cortes joined the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in June 2014 at the Department of Foundational Medical Studies. He teaches Immunology to M1-M2 students.
Prior to joining OUWB, Dr. Cortes worked at Medical University of Americas and University of Toledo College of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell Biology and Neurosciences (2006), as well as his DVM (1996) from the University of Chile in Santiago.
His research interest focuses, in collaboration with University of Toledo College of Medicine, on the role of complement system and platelet-monocyte/aggregation in atherosclerosis. His research interest also includes medical education research to promote effective learning in medical students, and his passion, in the last 6 years, has been creating several programs to help children in our community at Pontiac. He has also published dozens of articles, abstracts and book chapters.
