Biography:

I have started my nursing career in early 1980s having worked full-time at Pontiac General Hospital as a Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN), then at Corewell Oakwood Hospital as a full-time Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in the NICU for twenty consecutive years. While I worked full-time as a NNP I also became a part-time clinical Student Nurse (SN) educator of pediatric clinicals at the acute clinical settings for Oakland Community College (30 years +) and then Oakland University (12 years +). Not long ago I completed my Master of Science (MS) in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) from University of Michigan (UM), Ann Arbor. My entire nursing career has been spent on education of patients, family, staff nurses, resident doctors, and student nurses (SNs). As a NNP I have resuscitated infants at delivery and the bedside, intubated, inserted arterial and venous catheters, including PICC lines, performed chest tube insertions, performed radial artery insertion, intraventricular cerebral taps, cerebral spinal fluid taps, assisted in autopsy, transported many sick infants via ambulance to the main NICU, even attended to and transported a sick infant at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport from a 747 plane who was being transported from Colorado. I was in charge of the Neonatal resuscitation course for all the NICU RNs, residents doctors, and Neonatologists for more than six years. I taught RN education and orientation courses for many years. I continue to teach SNs at Oakland Community and Oakland University and value every minute that I teach each SN. As a SN educator I have been instrumental in teaching students (and staff) hands on clinical procedures such as: basic physical assessments of the infant, toddler, school-age patients, sterile urinary catheterizations, sterile tracheal suctioning, gastrostomy tube medication and feeding administrations, as well as the basic medication administrations, computerized charting, sign-off reporting, team player, etc.
