Financial Aid Information Session

Students and families are encouraged to join a live webinar or watch the recorded presentation to learn general information regarding the financial aid process. Just like a Financial Aid Night held at local high schools, we provide general information able to be used no matter what college or university students plan to attend. Topics include the elements of financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), private resources available, and more!

Two options for online presentations are available:

*MM for Junior Jumpstart

FAFSA Workshops

Students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after October 1 as possible, beginning in their senior year of high school and continuing throughout their college career. FAFSA assistance is available to help high school seniors, transfer students, parents (when applicable), and current college students complete the FAFSA with professional assistance. Two formats are available for registration below, you only need to choose one.

Prior to your workshop please complete the following tasks:

FAFSA Small Group Workshops are available year round to allow multiple students and their parents (when applicable) to get help completing the FAFSA; private breakout rooms are utilized if you have a personal question or need to share your screen privately.

FAFSA Individual Workshops are available October - February to allow students and parents (when applicable) to get help completing the FAFSA on an individual basis.  Individual FAFSA workshops will resume in October 2022.

After the FAFSA is Complete
After you submit your FAFSA, it's important to make sure you continue tending to your financial aid process by engaging in the following:
  • Review the Student Aid Report once the FAFSA has been processed (link delivered via student's email)
  • Create a MISSG Student Portal account with the State of Michigan to access additional opportunities
  • Apply continuously for private scholarships
Award Letter Evaluation

Oakland University offers two workshops to help students and their families understand and evaluate the financial aid award packages a student may receive from multiple colleges and universities. Download the Award Evaluation worksheet and use the Net Price Calculator or Estimated Cost of Attendance provided by each school you're considering attending. Visit the Net Price Calculator Center to find the link to every school's NPC.

Award Letter Evaluation Workshops
High school sponsored Award Letter Evaluation Workshops are offered at various high schools in the tri-county area. Students are encouraged to bring award notifications from any college or university they may attend, as well as any student account usernames and passwords. Ask your high school counselor when a workshop will be held for seniors at your school!

Understanding Your OU Award Workshops
Oakland University Student Financial Services offers Understanding Your OU Award Letter workshops intended for first year and transfer undergraduate students newly admitted to Oakland University. Students and their families will receive guidance in viewing financial assistance from Oakland University, gain an understanding of how financial aid is awarded, the process completing financial aid requirements, and understanding the next steps in the financial aid process. Please activate your Oakland University accounts prior to attending this workshop and be prepared to access your OU email, MySail, and eBill accounts.
