Events
Financial Services offers a variety of financial aid events available to high school students and their families. Presentations and workshops are available for those who wish to learn more about the financial aid process, completing the FAFSA, or evaluating financial aid awards.
High school students and their parents are encouraged to join a live webinar or watch the recorded presentation to learn general information regarding the financial aid process. Just like a Financial Aid Night held at local high schools, we provide general information able to be used no matter what college or university students plan to attend. Topics include the elements of financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), private resources available, and more!

Students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after October 1 as possible, beginning in their senior year of high school and continuing throughout their college career. FAFSA assistance is available to help high school seniors and their parents (when applicable) and current college students complete the FAFSA with professional assistance. Two virtual formats are available.
Virtual FAFSA Appointments are available to assist high school seniors and their parents complete the FAFSA with professional assistance on an individual basis in a private webinar environment. Appointments are private and secure. Virtual appointments take place online from the comfort of your own home or other location you choose. You will receive a private link and password to join your personal webinar environment, after signing up for a virtual appointment.
Virtual FAFSA Group Workshops are also available, and allow multiple students and their parents to get help completing the FAFSA; private breakout rooms are utilized if you have a personal question or need to share your screen without others in the workshop being able to hear or see the information you're sharing.

- Create your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). Students and parents will create a separate FSA ID, usernames and passwords are not shared.
- Record the FSA ID information on Step One of the FAFSA Instructional Handout.
- Review the FAFSA Checklist for a list of items necessary to complete the FAFSA.

After the FAFSA is Complete
- Review the Student Aid Report once the FAFSA has been processed (link delivered via student's email)
- Create a MISSG Student Portal account with the State of Michigan to access additional opportunities
- Apply continuously for private scholarships
Oakland University offers two workshops to help high school seniors and their families understand and evaluate the financial aid award packages a student may receive from multiple colleges and universities. Download the Award Evaluation worksheet and use the Net Price Calculator or Estimated Cost of Attendance provided by each school you're considering attending. Visit the Net Price Calculator Center to find the link to every school's NPC.
Award Letter Evaluation Workshops
High school sponsored Award Letter Evaluation Workshops are offered at various high schools in the tri-county area. Students are encouraged to bring award notifications from any college or university they may attend, as well as any student account usernames and passwords. Ask your high school counselor when a workshop will be held for seniors at your school!
Understanding Your OU Award Workshops
Oakland University Student Financial Services offers Understanding Your OU Award Letter workshops intended for newly admitted first year and transfer undergraduate students. Students and their families will receive guidance in viewing financial assistance from Oakland University, gain an understanding of how financial aid is awarded, the process completing financial aid requirements, and understanding the next steps in the financial aid process.
