Events
Financial Services offers a variety of financial aid events available to students and their families who wish to learn more about the financial aid process, completing the FAFSA, or evaluating financial aid awards.
Students and families are encouraged to join a live webinar or watch the recorded presentation to learn general information regarding the financial aid process. Just like a Financial Aid Night held at local high schools, we provide general information able to be used no matter what college or university students plan to attend. Topics include the elements of financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), private resources available, and more!
Two options for online presentations are available:

- Attend one of the following Financing Education Beyond High School live virtual presentations. Register for:
Students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after October 1 as possible, beginning in their senior year of high school and continuing throughout their college career. FAFSA assistance is available to help high school seniors, transfer students, parents (when applicable), and current college students complete the FAFSA with professional assistance. Two formats are available for registration below, you only need to choose one.
- Create your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). Students and parents will create a separate FSA ID, usernames and passwords are not shared.
- Record the FSA ID information on Step One of the FSA ID and FAFSA Worksheet.
- Review the FAFSA Checklist for a list of items necessary to complete the FAFSA.

FAFSA Small Group Workshops are available year round to allow multiple students and their parents (when applicable) to get help completing the FAFSA; private breakout rooms are utilized if you have a personal question or need to share your screen privately.

FAFSA Individual Workshops are available October - February to allow students and parents (when applicable) to get help completing the FAFSA on an individual basis. Individual FAFSA workshops will resume in October 2022.
- Review the Student Aid Report once the FAFSA has been processed (link delivered via student's email)
- Create a MISSG Student Portal account with the State of Michigan to access additional opportunities
- Apply continuously for private scholarships
Oakland University offers two workshops to help students and their families understand and evaluate the financial aid award packages a student may receive from multiple colleges and universities. Download the Award Evaluation worksheet and use the Net Price Calculator or Estimated Cost of Attendance provided by each school you're considering attending. Visit the Net Price Calculator Center to find the link to every school's NPC.
Award Letter Evaluation Workshops
High school sponsored Award Letter Evaluation Workshops are offered at various high schools in the tri-county area. Students are encouraged to bring award notifications from any college or university they may attend, as well as any student account usernames and passwords. Ask your high school counselor when a workshop will be held for seniors at your school!
Understanding Your OU Award Workshops
Oakland University Student Financial Services offers Understanding Your OU Award Letter workshops intended for first year and transfer undergraduate students newly admitted to Oakland University. Students and their families will receive guidance in viewing financial assistance from Oakland University, gain an understanding of how financial aid is awarded, the process completing financial aid requirements, and understanding the next steps in the financial aid process. Please activate your Oakland University accounts prior to attending this workshop and be prepared to access your OU email, MySail, and eBill accounts.

Transfer students admitted to Oakland University, and who have recently registered for courses with your individual academic department are encouraged to participate in a Transfer Student Financial Aid Review session. Participating in this virtual session will provide information on the financial aid process at Oakland University, how to obtain financial aid, eBill, direct deposit, student employment, and payment plan options.
