Campus Student Organic Farm

The Campus Student Organic Farm (CSOF) recently dedicated their newest hoophouse, known as the Salad Palace, with a ribbon-cutting by representatives of key stakeholders. This hoophouse, the latest addition to the farm, was funded by Oakland University Student Congress (OUSC) and was built earlier in the summer, in part by students.

These efforts helped inspire the creation of the Pedagogical Partnerships Program. In collaboration with five academic institutions in the state of Alabama, Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. has been awarded $5 million by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of a five-year project that will provide scholarships and academic, social, and professional development opportunities to high-achieving, low-income students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related fields.

As a first-generation college student, the Detroit native wasn’t sure how to navigate her college journey, from picking a major, to managing her course load, to integrating work and social life. She also questioned how she would fund her education without taking on too much debt.

Eligible employees can choose from emerging fields such as cybersecurity and bioengineering to classic degree areas such as business, science, education and the liberal arts.
