Ron May

Ron May is the Founder and CEO of May Technology Group, which provides business consulting and supports educational initiatives. He is also an Executive in Residence for the Center for Positive Organizations, Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

With a distinguished career spanning over 30 years, May made significant contributions to DTE Energy, particularly in executive leadership roles across several key divisions. He served as the Executive Vice President of Major Enterprise Projects from 2008 to 2016, where he was responsible for overseeing large-scale initiatives, including infrastructure and technology advancements. Prior to that, May held senior leadership roles, including Senior Vice President of IT/ERP Projects and Senior Vice President of Transmission and Distribution, leading efforts in electric transmission, distribution systems, and IT projects to modernize and improve DTE Energy’s operations..

In addition to his corporate leadership, May was a committed advocate for diversity and inclusion. He served as chairman of the Michigan Round Table of Diversity and Inclusion and contributed to DTE Energy's African American Action Association. May was recognized with the Diversity Champion Award from multiple organizations and received the Distinguished Leader Award from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Currently, May is a member of the American Association of Cost Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Nuclear Society, the Engineering Society of Detroit, and the National Academy of Construction.

May earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan, completed the Harvard Advanced Management Program, and received an Honorary Doctor of Science in Engineering from Oakland University.

May contributed to the foreword of The Human Side of Enterprise, Annotated Edition (2006, McGraw
Hill) by Joel Cutter-Gershenfeld. He wrote a chapter in Lenses of Leadership: A Call to Action (2014, Cato) and co-authored Project Management for Experienced Project Managers (2016, Dog Ear) with Victor Allen. In 2020, he authored the fictional novel Black Blue Water (Page Publishing), embedding leadership principles. Most recently, he co-authored Mastering Project Management: A Guide for Leading (2024, Amazon).
