Experience
Dr. Meszaros has been a licensed physical therapist for over 25 years, with experience in a variety of clinical settings, most notably at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center (Virginia). Dr. Meszaros’ career path has emphasized the integration of physical therapy with other disciplines, such as exercise science, neuroscience and engineering. Academic positions have included The Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center, West Virginia University (College of Medicine) and The University of Toledo (Departments of Neuroscience and Physical Therapy). In 2012, Dr. Meszaros was on the leadership team that founded the DPT program at George Fox University (Oregon). At Oakland, a primary focus is on continued growth of the University's innovative multi-disciplinary Ph.D. program in Human Movement Science.
Research/Scholarship:
Dr. Meszaros’ primary research goal is to help people reduce injury risk, optimize training and enhance motor performance by developing novel wearable devices that shape human movement. This is accomplished by first studying sensorimotor and perceptual interactions during tasks, then devising specific tactile, mechanical or visual cues that modulate motion in real-time via customized algorithms.
Dr. Meszaros is grateful for the honor of having been recognized with a number of awards for professional excellence and service at the institutional and national levels. Internationally, a Fulbright grant allowed Dr. Meszaros to live and work with top movement scientists and clinicians in Europe. Dr. Meszaros has served as a manuscript reviewer for prominent publications such as the Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Neurophysiology, and Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy.
