Pre-physical Therapy in Exercise Science

If you wish to prepare to apply for graduate programs in physical therapy, the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Pre-physical Therapy is designed for you. This concentration within the Department of Human Movement Science offers introductory courses within pre-physical therapy as well as a broad spectrum of liberal arts, basic sciences, social sciences and exercise science courses required for a generalized health sciences program.

Choose the Pre-physical Therapy concentration to prepare for the traditional application requirements for Oakland University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). With this curriculum, you will receive a generalized health education as well as specific preparatory coursework for doctorate physical therapy programs. The career outlook for physical therapists is very positive due to an aging population as well as the increased need to treat people with mobility issues stemming from chronic conditions, such as diabetes or obesity.

Job Outlook
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that employment of physical therapists is projected to grow 17% from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations.

According to the BLS, the median average wage for physical therapists was $95,620 in 2021.
