Services

When you live on campus, you’ll have access to University Housing’s concierge services and facilities for your personal needs. If you ever have questions about these services, please contact your resident assistant (RA).

If something in your room or apartment needs to be fixed, or you need to report mechanical problems with a washer or dryer, please submit a maintenance repair request. Our skilled trades team will see to your repair as soon as they are able, in the order e-maintenance requests are requests are received.

Normal maintenance hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. While we are not able to provide advanced notice prior to the arrival of our staff, the team member scheduled to complete your repair will knock and announce themselves loudly before entering your assigned space. If you are not at home, staff members are permitted to enter your assigned space to complete the repair in your absence.

Once your repair has been completed, you will receive an email confirmation letting you know your request has been closed.

Staff members, when entering student rooms for reasons listed above, will report any visible or suspicious contraband or violations of University Housing and/or university policies.

If you have an emergency, such as no heat or power, outside of these hours, please contact OUPD at (248) 370-3331. If you are having problems with your internet or electronic devices, please contact the Housing Technology Helpdesk at (248) 370-2534.

If you have any additional questions, please contact University Housing at (248) 370-3570.

Don't worry about carrying your weight in quarters around OU. Every housing unit has at least one laundry room for residents to use free of charge.

Residence halls have laundry rooms equipped with Maytag washers and dryers, laundry sinks, chairs and tables. Each apartment in the Ann V. Nicholson student apartment complex has its own washer and dryer. The George T. Matthews student apartment complex has two central laundry rooms with three washers, three dryers, a laundry sink and sorting table in each one.

Each machine takes about 30 minutes to wash and 60 minutes to dry. Never leave your belongings or clothes unattended in any of the laundry rooms. Machines are for resident use only. Mechanical problems with any washer or dryer should be reported online via the e-maintenance system.

Each residence hall room and student apartment unit has a locked mailbox. Residence hall mailboxes are located on the main floor of each building and can be opened using the corresponding room keys. Mailboxes for Ann V. Nicholson student apartment residents are located in the Community House and can be opened with special mailbox keys (each mailbox corresponds to each student’s bedroom number). Mailboxes for George T. Matthews student apartment residents are right outside each apartment.

Please remember: in order for mail and packages to be delivered correctly, they must be addressed accurately. Please review the information below carefully, and be sure to share it with those who are likely to send you mail.

Packages
Residence hall students who receive a package will receive an email notification that they may pick up the package at either the Hamlin, Hillcrest, Oak View, or Vandenberg service desk. Students must present their student ID to receive the package.

Ann V. Nicholson student apartment residents who receive a package will get a notice in their mailbox along with a key to a parcel box located inside the Community House. If the package is too large for the parcel box, you will be asked to pick it up in the apartment office.

Outgoing mail
You can mail letters at the Hamlin, Hillcrest, Oak View, and Vandenberg Service Desks. The Apartments Community House also has a mail slot where letters can be mailed.
Forwarding mail
To ensure that your mail is forwarded following a move, be sure to update your address in your My Sail account each time you change addresses. Please note that only mail delivered by the United States Post Office will be forwarded; packages from UPS, FedEx, and DHL that are delivered for a student who does not live on campus will not be forwarded.

The materials needed for bed lofting can be obtained from the Service Desk in your community at move-in. Homemade lofts are not permitted.

On-campus residents who need to dispose of needles or other sharps are now able to check out a personal sharps container from the Service Desk in their community. Once the container has been filled, it can be exchanged or turned in at the Service Desk in Vandenberg Hall. We ask that all containers are returned at the end of the semester.

There may be a variety of reasons students need access to a sharps container. Examples of sharps include:

  • Needles – hollow needles used to inject medication under the skin.
  • Syringes – devices used to inject medication into, or withdraw fluid from, the body.
  • Lancets (also called “fingerstick” devices) – instruments with a short, two-edged blade used to collect drops of blood for testing.

This pilot program was created by the Graham Health Center, the Environmental Health and Safety Program, and University Housing. Our thanks to the Residence Halls Association, Council of Students with Disabilities, and Transcend for advocating that this resource be available to on-campus residents.
