Laundry Service

Don't worry about carrying your weight in quarters around OU. Every housing unit has at least one laundry room for residents to use free of charge.

Residence halls have laundry rooms equipped with Maytag washers and dryers, laundry sinks, chairs and tables. Each apartment in the Ann V. Nicholson student apartment complex has its own washer and dryer. The George T. Matthews student apartment complex has two central laundry rooms with three washers, three dryers, a laundry sink and sorting table in each one.

Each machine takes about 30 minutes to wash and 60 minutes to dry. Never leave your belongings or clothes unattended in any of the laundry rooms. Machines are for resident use only. Mechanical problems with any washer or dryer should be reported online via the e-maintenance system.

For a fee of $10 to $15 per bag, you can have your laundry picked up and returned to you cleaned and pressed. This laundry service is provided by young adults with autism through a microbusiness at the OU INCubator.

Mail Services
Each residence hall room and student apartment unit has a locked mailbox. Residence hall mailboxes are located on the main floor of each building and can be opened using the corresponding room keys. Mailboxes for Ann V. Nicholson student apartment residents are located in the Community House and can be opened with special mailbox keys (each mailbox corresponds to each student’s bedroom number). Mailboxes for George T. Matthews student apartment residents are right outside each apartment.

Packages
Residence hall students who receive a package will get a notice in their mailbox to pick up the package at either the Hamlin, Oak View or Vandenberg reception desk. Students must present their student ID to receive the package.

Ann V. Nicholson student apartment residents who receive a package will get a notice in their mailbox along with a key to a parcel box located inside the Community House. If the package is too large for the parcel box, you will be asked to pick it up in the apartment office.

To forward mail after moving:

  • Residence hall students must complete a change-of-address card and leave it at the Hamlin, Oak View or Vandenberg reception desks.
  • Ann V. Nicholson student apartment residents must complete a change-of-address card at the time of checkout.
  • George T. Matthews student apartment residents must complete a change-of-address card at any U.S. Post Office.

TV/Cable

XFINITY On Campus™ is an IPTV streaming service offered by Comcast for current University Housing resident students as their on-campus TV service solution. This service allows residents to stream live TV and DVR content through the on-campus WiFi and wired network from a computer, mobile device or Roku player.

How to connect to XFINITY On Campus:

  • Go to www.xfinityoncampus.com
  • Start typing “oakland” in the text box and select Oakland University
  • Sign in with your OU NetID
  • Once authenticated, click “Start Watching”

How to connect to XFINITY On Campus from a mobile device:

  • Download the "XFINITY Stream" app from Google Play, the App Store or on your Roku
  • Select "XFINITY On Campus Students – Sign in here"
  • Select Oakland University
  • Sign in using your OU credentials
  • Once authenticated, you will be returned to the "XFINITY Stream" app

Supported devices that can be used to access XoC include:

  • Laptops and desktops (PC and Mac): XFINITYonCampus.com
  • Apple Mobile Devices: Download the XFINITY Stream app from the App Store
  • Android Mobile Devices: Download the XFINITY Stream app from Google Play
  • Amazon Devices (compatible devices only): Download the XFINITY Stream app from the Amazon Store
  • Roku Devices: Connect to the XFINITY Channel in the Roku Channel Store

As with any content-heavy use of the network (such as when you play video games or stream movies), we recommend you always use your Ethernet connection in your room, or a 5ghz capable WiFi connection when using XoC. We cannot guarantee a satisfactory experience over the 2.4ghz network.

You may not change the existing Internet service package by purchasing and installing any of Comcast’s broadband Internet services in your rooms as it violates Oakland University’s network usage policies. Violation of this policy will result in judicial action.

If you experience trouble with your cable service, please report the issue.
