Readmission
Oakland University is pleased that you are considering returning! Please read below to learn about the readmission application process, how to check your application status, and support services available to you.
We can't wait to see you on campus soon!
Students should apply for readmission who have been:
- absent from the university for two or more years
- dismissed for unsatisfactory academic progress
Students who were dismissed for unsatisfactory academic progress must follow these application due dates to be considered for readmission:
- July 1 for the fall semester
- November 1 for the winter semester
- March 1 for the summer semester
Students who have been absent from the university for two or more years, but are otherwise returning in good academic standing, may be considered on a rolling basis.
If you attended another school during your absence from Oakland University, you must submit an official transcript from each college or university attended.
Any student who is unable to attend class or must suspend their studies due to military service requirements will be readmitted with the same academic status they had when last attending the university.
Readmission to the university is not automatic for students dismissed because of poor academic performance. An application for readmission by a student who has been dismissed for insufficient academic progress is reviewed by the university’s Readmission Committee.
If readmitted students fail to enroll for the semester or session for which their readmission is granted, that readmission is considered void. If students wish to enroll up to one year from the original term of application for which readmission was granted, they may do so with a request to update their readmission application by calling Undergraduate Admissions at (248) 370-3360. However, if such students wish to enroll for a term later than one year from the term for which they were readmitted, they must complete another readmission application and submit it by the deadlines.
Once your application materials are received, the Readmission Committee will make a decision within four weeks. If applying after the due date, your application will be considered for the following semester.
Students who were academically dismissed and are readmitted will be contacted by Orientation and New Student Programs to set up an appointment to review the readmission requirements. If an application is denied, the student would then be contacted by an admissions adviser.
You may also request a status check by emailing Undergraduate Admissions at [email protected] or by calling (248) 370-3360.
Students who were academically dismissed and have been successfully readmitted to OU are required to meet with a staff member from Orientation and New Student Programs (ONSP) prior to enrolling in courses.
Here is what will be discussed:
- Review the Readmission Letter
- Discuss campus resources
- Answer any questions the student has about returning
- Share next steps
- Assist with setting up an academic advising appointment
Note: ONSP welcomes the opportunity to meet with any student wanting to return to provide a smooth transition back to OU.
