Articulation Agreements

Oakland University has articulation policies that benefit each of Michigan's 28 community colleges that do not require an official agreement. In some cases agreements are signed in order to improve on the current policies or improve on the recognition of benefits to transfer students.  A link that has the phrase "signed agreement" means that we have officially signed an agreement with that partner institution. In order to make things easier to understand for students we have removed the legal language/signatures and focused on the transfer guide portion. If anyone is interested in seeing the fully signed documents, please contact Transfer Help.

Michigan Transfer Agreement

The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) allows you to satisfy OU’s general education requirements at a Michigan community college (with the exception of a writing intensive course in the major and a capstone course, and you must either transfer in a course for the knowledge applications requirement or take a course at OU). To fulfill the MTA, you must successfully complete at least 30 credits, with at least a C or 2.0 grade in each course. These credits, which will be certified by a Michigan community college, should be met according to the following distribution:

  • 1 course in English Composition
  • A second course in English Composition or 1 course in Communications. Oakland University strongly recommends that you take the community college equivalent of WRT 1060.
  • 1 course in Mathematics
  • 2 courses in Social Sciences (from two disciplines)
  • 2 courses in Humanities and Fine Arts (from two disciplines and excluding studio and performance classes)
  • 2 courses in Natural Sciences including one with laboratory experience (from two disciplines)
Note: If these courses do not add up to 30 hours, then you must take an additional course from one of these groups. Also, your transcript must bear the “MTA Satisfied” designation.
MACRAO Transfer Agreement

After summer 2019, students will no longer be able to pursue the MACRAO Transfer Agreement, but it will be honored at Oakland University forever.

A minimum of 30 semester hours of coursework must be taken at one of Michigan’s participating community colleges. The courses needed to satisfy the MACRAO requirements are as follows:

  • English Composition – 6 credit hours
  • Science and Math – 8 credit hours (Courses must be taken from a minimum of two subject areas. At least one science course must include a laboratory.)
  • Social Science – 8 credit hours (Courses must be taken from a minimum of two subject areas.)
  • Humanities – 8 credit hours (Courses must be taken from a minimum of two subject areas.)
Note: You must earn an average of C- or 2.0 grade in all courses. Also, your transcript must bear the “MACRAO Agreement Satisfied” designation.
