Jane Newman, Ph.D., joined Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in July 2024 as an assistant professor in the Department of Foundational Medical Studies. She teaches early career medical students about key biochemical pathways and concepts of particular importance to medical professionals.

Dr. Newman received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Indiana University with a focus on the biochemical mechanisms of transcription factors in quorum sensing systems within disease-causing Vibrio bacteria. Before joining OUWB, Dr. Newman worked as an assistant professor at Adrian College in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Her research articles have appeared in publications such as Molecular Microbiology, Journal of Chemical Education, Nucleic Acids Research, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, and Stem Cell Renewal and Cell-Cell Communication: Methods and Protocols.
