James D. Grant, M.D.
Chair of Anesthesiology
James D. Grant, M.D., a native Michiganian, is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his post graduate training at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, completed his recertification in 2008 and is an associate examiner for the Board.
Dr. Grant has been on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) since 2002 and was elected as Assistant Treasurer of the 42,000-member organization in October 2006 and subsequently elected Treasurer in October 2010. In addition, he serves or has served on the ASA Administrative Council, Section on Fiscal Affairs, and various committees. He currently chairs the ASA's Section on Fiscal Affairs and Committee on Executive Compensation. Dr. Grant also serves on the Board of Directors of the Michigan State Medical Society, where he has served in multiple capacities, culminating as the 149th President of the MSMS in 2014. Dr. Grant was elected a member of the Michigan delegation to the American Medical Association in 2001 and was elected chair of the delegation in 2015. Dr. Grant also serves on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, the Anesthesia Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Dr. Grant is a past president of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists. In addition, in 2001 he was appointed by the Governor to the Michigan Board of Medicine and served seven years on the Board, three as chair.
