Rationale:Classrooms: Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine must provide and prioritize adequate and available spaces for curriculum-based and mandatory student activities. All spaces: OUWB must ensure a safe environment for all students, faculty, and staff in its building spaces while upholding boundaries of appropriate use to maintain facilities as well as support student and employee wellness. | |
Scope and Applicability:Classrooms: This policy is applicable to all OUWB students, faculty, and staff and all spaces designated as a classroom. All spaces: This policy applies to all OUWB students, faculty, and staff and all OUWB spaces identified as study, learning, or common areas. Guidelines as stated below also apply to the use of the Robin Powered Room Reservation Software and associated spaces. | |
Standard Practice Guideline:Classrooms: All bookings and use of spaces designated as a classroom should be prioritized for curriculum-based and/or mandatory student activities which may include course sessions, breakout sessions, student orientation, etc. If spaces designated as a classroom are not booked or needed for curriculum-based or mandatory student activities, these spaces can be booked by OUWB faculty and staff for other OUWB events. Students have the option of using designated classroom spaces as a study space, unless otherwise stated, if not reserved for an OUWB event. All spaces: Students, faculty, and staff may not use any OUWB space for an extended period of time for such activities as sleeping, storage of personal items (other than in personally assigned offices, cubicles, or lounge lockers), or as living space. For rooms bookable through the Robin Powered Room Reservation software, students may not:

Procedures:Classrooms: If a designated classroom space is needed for a curriculum-based or mandatory student activity, and the room is otherwise booked for an event, the event organizer may be asked to rebook elsewhere. Any booking conflicts should be managed between event organizers however the OUWB Registrar has the authority to determine which event(s) may take priority. All spaces: Security or OUWB personnel will report any concerns or instances of inappropriate use of space to the Vice Dean for Business and Administration for investigation. The Vice Dean will consult with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Faculty & Staff Affairs and Professional Development, or other Executive Leadership Team members as appropriate to resolve the reported issues. For students, this may include the submission of a Professionalism Feedback Form. Students that misuse the Robin Powered Room Reservation software may have their access removed for the remainder of the applicable academic year. | |
