Last Update:

Rationale:

OUWB was established in partnership with Oakland University and William Beaumont Hospital. Given that William Beaumont Hospital is the sole clinical affiliate of OUWB, it is necessary to establish a guideline for the accommodation of visiting students at William Beaumont Hospital that does not infringe on the access of OUWB students to clinical training.

Scope and Applicability:

M3 and M4 Curriculum at Beaumont Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe

Standard Practice Guideline:

Students enrolled at OUWB are assured access to the clinical learning opportunities at William Beaumont Hospital before students visiting from other Affiliated Schools institutions.

Procedures:

  1. No visiting students may complete required core clerkships based out of and/or supported by the OUWB clinical faculty of Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Beaumont Hospital, Troy and Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe.
  2. OUWB students will enroll in M3 core clerkships prior to the accommodation of visiting students on the clinical teaching services to which OUWB students are assigned.
  3. OUWB M4s have priority placement in electives and required clerkships based out of and/or supported by the clinical faculty at Beaumont, Royal Oak, Beaumont, Troy and Beaumont, Grosse Pointe.
  4. OUWB students will enroll in M4 required clerkships and electives prior to the accommodation of visiting students into these electives offered through the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS).
  5. All U.S. visiting medical students interested in participating in electives based out of and/or supported by the clinical faculty at Beaumont, Royal Oak, Beaumont, Troy and Beaumont, Grosse Pointe must apply through the AAMC’s Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). All students applying must be in the fourth and final year of medical school training and attend an LCME/COCA accredited school.
