The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine Class of 2023 White Coat ceremony is set for Friday, Aug. 9 — and will be available via live stream on computers and mobile devices.
During the ceremony, first-year medical students wrap up a week of orientation by accepting their white physicians coat; a coat that physicians have worn for more than 100 years to symbolize the trust between patient and doctor.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the class will recite the Oath of Geneva, the declaration of physicians' dedication to the humanitarian goals of medicine.
The ceremony is being held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Troy Marriott, 200 W. Big Beaver, Troy, Michigan.
