Diversity Month at OUWB

Soft Kick-off Activities

Please join Diversity & Inclusion for hands-on and engaging activities to begin Diversity Month. Activities will include creating sand bottles, coloring, and other cultural and reflective activities that are intended to promote diversity.

Monday, Oct. 7
Live Kickoff - DEIC - Lunch-n-Learn

Join Diversity & Inclusion, in collaboration with the DEIC, for a lunch-n-learn event as the official live kick off to Diversity Month. Come hear special remarks from OUWB Dean Chris Carpenter, M.D. and MSG President, Shreya Desai, Class of 2027. DEIC members will lead a conversation with the attendees to discuss all matters of diversity, equity, inclusion, and how we collectively can create a sense of community and belonging. RSVP is strongly encouraged.

Monday, Oct. 7
What’s Popping OUWB

I smell popcorn! Join Compass Center for Community Engagement and Diversity & Inclusion for a tasty treat. As we celebrate our unique identities, why not do it over a familiar treat, popcorn! Compass Center for Community Engagement joins Diversity and Inclusion in their Diversity Month kickoff to launch our What’s Poppin’ OUWB days. Come grab a bag and learn more about this fun initiative.

Friday, Oct. 11
Kaleidoscope Relaunch

Please join us in celebrating the LGBTQ+ community at OUWB, from students to faculty and staff. All are welcome! The project is intended to promote inclusivity amongst all realms of medical education — from the classroom to patient care. This come-and-go event will include food, fun, information and engagement. The first half will focus on introducing Kaleidoscope, its future plans, and information pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community and healthcare. While the second half will focus on fun, games, and engaging activities.

Join the OU/Pontiac Initiative Healthcare and Wellness Pillar and department leaders for coffee (breakfast!) and conversation to discuss the benefits, myths and challenges driving the DEI agenda in healthcare and medical school. Cultural Walkthrough Exhibit & Food Tasting

This exhibit will provide an immersive experience to celebrate diverse traditions and customs. This is an opportunity for everyone from the OUWB community to display items important to their culture and history such as family customs, wedding traditions, recipes, traditional clothes or accessories, rights of passage, etc. Everyone is welcome to share in this cultural exchange and engage in open conversations as we explore the diverseness of our OUWB/OU community. OUWB student organizations are invited to set up cultural booths to spread awareness and engagement opportunities.

As we wrap up an inspiring Diversity Month, we invite you to join us for the grand finale—a vibrant celebration of gratitude through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This event is a culmination of our month-long journey through workshops, discussions, and interactive sessions, each fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich tapestry of cultures, identities, and perspectives that thrive in our community.
