Placement of Printed Materials and Signs

Rationale:

In accordance with Oakland University Policy 320 (Campus Signs), Oakland University Policy 486 (University Posting Policy), to maintain the integrity of walls and facilities, and to uphold OUWB and university brand standards.

Scope and Applicability:

This guideline is applicable to all OUWB staff and faculty as well as students enrolled in the School of Medicine. Applicable spaces include common areas, hallways, learning, and study spaces managed by OUWB.

Guideline:

This guideline does not supersede any university policies related to signs, bulletin boards, or posters.

This policy is not precluding items hung/posted on any employee’s door or cubical in which they wish to hang appropriate items (i.e. OUFD ribbons, SAFE space training, office hours, white boards, flyers, etc.).

OUWB students, faculty, and staff may not hang or mount any paper flyers, temporary or permanent signage, or printed event materials or decorations on doors, walls, or windows.

Temporary:

All temporary signage, flyers, event materials, or decorations must be placed on designated bulletin boards, stands, or framed document holders unless otherwise approved by the Vice Dean for Business and Administration.

If approved, OUWB students, faculty, and staff must mount temporary signage, event materials, or decorations using painters’ tape or another non-damaging adhesive to not damage walls, doors, or other physical property. It is the responsibility of event organizers and/or each area to ensure that appropriate tape is available and is used.

Permanent:

Any permanent signage (i.e. room, directional, etc.) must be developed utilizing the assistance of OUWB’s Communications and Marketing team to ensure that brand standards of OUWB and the university are upheld.

Procedures:

If individual OUWB students or student organizations would like to post event flyers, reminders, etc. they must be placed either on the bulletin board within the student lounge or the specified student organizations bulletin board. Flyers posted elsewhere will be removed by Administration.

If OUWB faculty and staff would like to have course signs, event signs, etc. posted/available they may use OUWB-owned stands that may be checked out from support staff by emailing [email protected].

If OUWB faculty, staff, students, or student organizations would like to post or hang event decorations in any OUWB managed spaces, they must get prior approval from the Vice Dean for Business and Administration by submitting an exceptions form. If approved, items must be hung using painters’ tape or another non-damaging adhesive. It is the responsibility of event organizers and/or each area to ensure that appropriate tape is available and is used.

All day-of or event-specific materials should be removed following the conclusion of the activity or event.
